Day of Missing Persons Was Celebrated in Azerbaijan
Today
by the initiative of Helsinki Citizens` Assembly Azerbaijan National
Committee (HCA ANC) the day of missing persons was celebrated for
the first time in Baku.
The participants of the event were at the Alley of Shehids, then they
went to the island of Nargin where during 30-50s thousands of people
repressed by Stalin regime have been shot. Most of the names are still
not known. Wreaths were let into the water in their memory. Representatives
form embassies, UNO, ICRC and right protective organizations participated
in it. There was a decision to address to the government, Milly Mejlise
asking for including the Commemoration Day in the official calendar
and erecting a monument to missing persons.
